Politics in India

The country of India, which is also officially known as the Republic of India is situated in South Asia. The rich culture, the rich heritage and the mind-blowing sightseeing options have helped this country to emerge as the most popular destination. The other factors that are responsible for the popularity of this country are impressive structures that speak volumes about the creative bent of mind of the architects of the early period.

However, as far as the democratic history, which is an integral part of the early politics of India is concerned it is required to mention here that the Government of India was led by the Indian National Congress and it is also to be noted here that the state politics have always been under the dominance of the various national parties that includes the Indian National Congress, the Communist Party of India, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the other regional parties as well. The Indian National Congress (INC) from the year 1950 to the year 1990 enjoyed a majority in the Parliament.

About the Politics in India it could be said that the INC was devoid of power from the year 1977 to 1980 as at this time, it was the Janata Party that won the election and the reason behind this was that the public did not approve of the emergency that was declared by the then Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi.

In the year 1989, the Janata Dal led the National Front coalition in alliance with the Left Front coalition and it is essential to mention here that it succeeded to stay in power only for two years.

The years 1996 to 1998 are considered to be the years of turmoil as the federal government along with the alliances that were short lived was unstable. Hence, a government was formed by the Bharatiya Janata Party in the year 1996, which was followed by the coalition of the United Front. Two years later, that is in the year 1998, the BJP formed the National Democratic Alliance with various regional parties and due to its efforts it emerged as the first non ? Congress government that was able to complete a five year term.

However, in the year 2004 elections of India, the INC grabbed the maximum number of Lok Sabha seats and formed a government with a coalition known as the United Progressive Alliance and it got the support of the several left leaning parties as well as of the members, who opposed the BJP.
