Culture of India |
As far as the culture of India, a country situated in the South Asia is concerned, it could be said that this country boasts of a diverse culture. It could also be said that the culture of India is primarily known for its syncretism, which consists of the attempt to reconcile the beliefs that are completely contradictory and cultural pluralism and it is a term that is basically used when the smaller groups within the larger society succeed to preserve their own cultural identities.
The most interesting factor about the culture of India is that though it has absorbed the new customs, new traditions as well as the new ideas, it has preserved the old traditions. It is also to be noted here that that the culture of India is also reflected in the architectural monuments and the structures and it would not be wrong to say in this respect that the Taj Mahal (a mausoleum) reflects the architectural style of the Mughals as well as of the Dravidian.
If we speak of the literary traditions of India, which is an integral part of the culture of India, it is essential to mention here that the literary traditions which are considered to be the earliest were only oral and were inscribed much later and most of the literary traditions existed in the form of Sanskrit texts, such as the Vedas, the Mahabharata and the Ramayana and it is also required to state here that the Sangam literature (a body of classical Tamil literature) dates back to the 200 BCE.
Regarding the Indian dress it could be said that the most popular dress as far as females are concerned are the sarees and as far as the males are concerned it is the dhoti and punjabi.
The cuisine of India is characterized by a great variety of regional styles and most of the cuisines of India are prepared with the help of the herbs as well as spices and rice is known to be the staple food of India.
The culture of India gets best reflected in its festivals and the most popular festivals of India are the Durga Puja, Holi, Onam, Christmas, Baisakhi and Dussehra.
