The climate of India is heavily influenced by the Himalayas and the Thar Desert and it is essential to state here that the Hindukush Mountains of Pakistan (a republic in South Asia) as well as the Himalayas does not allow the cold central Asian katabatic winds to affect the climate of India and thus it helps the subcontinent of India to experience a warm climate. The role played by the Thar Desert is that it draws in the southwest summer monsoon winds that are moisture laden and this occurs in the months of June and October and these are the months of heavy rainfall as far as India is concerned.
The four major climatic seasons that dominate India are the tropical wet, the tropical dry, the montane and the subtropical humid.
The four official seasons of India as designated by the, Meteorological Department are the Summer or Pre Monsoon (March to June), Monsoon (June to September), Post Monsoon (October to December) and Winter (January to March).
